MIDDLE SCHOOL &
HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP

Zion’s Hill is a Partner Church in the Joint Youth Ministry Program

More than a decade ago, as an act of faith and vision, the congregations of Zion’s Hill, Wilton Presbyterian and St. Matthew’s Episcopal Churches entered into a covenant to join their efforts in ministry to youth in middle and high school.

The mission of this Joint Youth Ministries is to proclaim the Gospel in word and deed, to communicate God’s love, to share in the journey of faith, to answer God’s call to do justice, love kindness and walk with humility, and to affirm and welcome all youth and their families as we give glory, honor and praise to our Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer.

This mission is carried out through groups and programs for 6th -12th graders and their families, and all three churches provide staff and volunteer leadership.

The Joint Youth Ministry program includes the following groups and programs:

MIDDLE SCHOOL

6TH & 7TH GRADE YOUTH GROUP

This group meets once a month,
usually on Wednesday evening, for fun, food and fellowship.

G.E.O.D.E. DISCIPLESHIP GROUPS FOR 6TH & 7TH GRADE

“GEODE” stands for “Girls/Guys Exploring Opportunities for Discipleship Experiences!” There are two of these discipleship groups for 6th and 7th graders, one for boys and one for girls, that each meet three times a year for dinner and in-depth discussion and activities.

8TH GRADE YOUTH GROUP

This group meets once a month, usually on Wednesday evening, to share dinner, play games, join in lively discussions, and carry out service projects. This group is designed to supplement and enrich the 8th grade confirmation program; meeting topics correspond to material covered in class, but with a fun twist. All 8th graders are welcome, whether or not they are part of a confirmation class.

7TH & 8TH GRADE SEXUALITY SEMINAR

Every other year, 7th and 8th graders are invited to participate in a four-week long comprehensive sexuality education seminar that includes age-appropriate activities and discussions, along with presentations from guest speakers, all designed to help adolescents consider human sexuality in the light of their faith.

HIGH SCHOOL

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP

This group meets twice a month on Sundays after worship. One meeting a month follows a lunch and discussion format, and the other meeting each month alternates between hands-on community service projects, and just-for-fun activities like lazer tag, bowling, go-karting, or bonfires at our outdoor fire pit.

HIGH SCHOOL MISSION TRIP TO WASHINGTON DC

This trip occurs each year over the President’s Day school break in February.  Students spend four days and five nights working in homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and food banks in our nation’s capital.  Free time is spent meeting with advocacy organizations and sight-seeing at museums, parks and monuments. Students must be active in the life of one of our three partner churches to qualify to apply for the trip, all participants are required to attend mandatory orientation meetings in November and January, and all participants must help with two major fundraisers to help offset the cost of the trip.
